19. Our First Typo + A Print-Your-Own Map
Dear readers,
Hello from the brief window between our New England and West Coast tour spells. Our last easterly event was in Portland, ME on Friday. When this bulletin lands in your inbox, we’ll be hurtling towards Oregon in advance of a Monday evening book talk at The Other Portland’s Vivienne Culinary Books.
A couple of updates: first, a big thanks to our friend Paul Robinson for pointing out our first ingredient typo. In the first step of our Daal Makhani recipe on page 63, we call for 8 cups or 7.5 L of water. 8 cups is correct. 7.5 L is not. Please change 7.5 L to 2 L in your book. (If you come across any other suspected errata, do write us—I’ll be keeping a running list here.)
Second, as careful readers of this newsletter know, our illustrator Olivier designed a beautiful map that we were not allowed to include in the cookbook. In spite of the Chinese government’s inclinations, we’d love for you to have a copy. Please print your own by downloading a pdf here (click on the Resources button under the red-orange Add To Cart button, which will reveal a dark blue Map button). Send the file to your local print shop and request that it be printed on an 8x10 sheet of lightweight matte (or glossy, if you prefer) cardstock. The map is sized to neatly fit within the pages of the book—an improvement from the oversized map that we handed out at a few of our special dinner events in the Northeast, in case you received one of those.
In exchange for the cartographic bonus, we respectfully request a favor from you. Amazon reviews are (unfortunately) an important metric for many buyers, and ours are acutely lacking—at the time of this writing, we have a mere three. If you find yourself with a spare minute, we’d deeply appreciate your taking the time to write one. You don’t need to have purchased the book from Amazon to do so.
The tour so far has been a pleasure. My mom and I are both upright and well-fed, and we’re so grateful to those of you whom we’ve met, chatted, and eaten with en route. I’ll save the full recap for a future missive, but for now, know that gathering with you all in community has been a balm for us, especially in these stormy times. Please take care and be in touch.
Love,
Auyon

Thoroughly enjoyed the Exeter Word Barn event!

Looking forward to cooking along with you on October 20 via MilkStreet. I have your cookbook so what do you think I should make first?
